Kinoko-no-Yama Uji Matcha Review – Japanese Snack by Meiji
Introduction
This article reviews Kinoko-no-Yama Uji Matcha, which I recently purchased and tried.
Kinoko-no-Yama is a very well-known long-selling snack, and this is one of the variations from that series.
This snack is currently sold at a wide range of stores across Japan, including supermarkets and convenience stores.
Packaging
As I often mention when introducing Uji matcha snacks, Uji matcha refers to high-quality matcha made using tea leaves grown in Kyoto, Nara, Shiga, and Mie, and processed in Kyoto using traditional Uji methods.
It is ground carefully using stone mills, which creates a deep richness. The flavor is known for strong umami, mild bitterness, and a smooth taste with a slightly sweet aroma.
On the back of the package, it says something like:
“You can enjoy the deep flavor of sweetness and bitterness from Uji matcha chocolate combined with crispy crackers. It’s a perfect match♪”
In my mind, as someone who prefers Kinoko-no-Yama, I can almost hear a voice saying:
“Of course it’s good. It has to be good. It’s Kinoko-no-Yama.”
When I opened the box, as usual, there was an advertisement for Takenoko-no-Sato printed inside.
I understand that they have a balanced relationship, but when I open a box because I want to eat Kinoko-no-Yama, seeing Takenoko-no-Sato inside is not exactly what I am looking for.
That said, the same thing probably happens to Takenoko-no-Sato fans as well, so I will let it pass.

When I opened the bag and smelled it, there was a very nice matcha aroma.
It is enough to make me think:
“This is going to be good.”
The chocolate has a beautiful green color that clearly looks like matcha, and the contrast with the familiar crispy cracker makes it look very appetizing.
When I slowly let only the chocolate melt on my tongue, the mild sweetness, matcha bitterness, and flavor spread across my palate.
“Yes, it’s good.”
Taste & Texture
When I eat it together with the cracker, the chocolate coats the cracker, and the matcha aftertaste lasts longer compared to eating the chocolate alone.
There is no way this matcha chocolate would not go well with the roasted flavor of the cracker.
If I am not careful, I might lose again, so it seems necessary to also check the strength of the rival.

Kinoko-no-Yama Uji Matcha combines the smooth bitterness and aroma of matcha with the crispy texture of the cracker.
The balance between chocolate and cracker makes it easy to enjoy, and the matcha flavor leaves a pleasant aftertaste.
As expected from Kinoko-no-Yama, it delivers a reliable and satisfying experience.
