Kaki no Tane “Seed of Agility” Review – Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Limited Edition
This article reviews Kaki no Tane “Seed of Agility,” a limited collaboration snack released with Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, and explains its flavor, texture, ingredients, and allergen information based on the product sold in Japan.
Kaki no Tane, sometimes called Kaki-Pi when peanuts are included, is one of the long-running snack products made by Kameda Seika. It consists of small crescent-shaped rice crackers with a slightly spicy soy-sauce seasoning.
For this collaboration release, two special flavors were produced. I was able to obtain both, and this review focuses on one of them: Seed of Agility.
Because this is a collaboration product, it may already be difficult to find or no longer available by the time this review is published.
This product is sold exclusively at Lawson stores nationwide.
Package Design
This version is labeled Seed of Agility flavor and contains chili extract.
The package slogan roughly translates to:
“One bite and it feels like your speed will increase!”
Of course, this is just part of the theme. The package features a slime character printed in a way that suggests agility and speed, which fits the concept of the item from the Dragon Quest series.
The design is clearly meant to create the atmosphere of the game rather than make any literal claim.
One detail worth noting is that both collaboration versions of this product do not contain peanuts, which is unusual because standard Kaki no Tane products often include them.
Appearance
Here is what the “Seed of Agility” looks like when placed on a plate.
If this were the real Seed of Agility from the game, my daily walking commute would probably become much faster.
Visually, the crackers look almost identical to standard Kaki no Tane. The shape and size are the same small crescent-style rice crackers.
The color may appear slightly darker than the regular version, but the difference is subtle.
Taste & Spiciness
After tasting the crackers, the chili spice becomes noticeable almost immediately after putting one in your mouth.
Standard Kaki no Tane already has a mild spicy flavor, but this version clearly increases the level of chili heat.
That said, it is not overwhelmingly spicy. It is still comfortable to eat without needing water immediately.
As with most Kaki no Tane products, once you start eating them it can be difficult to stop. People familiar with this snack series will probably recognize that feeling.
This type of rice cracker is also well known in Japan as a drinking snack. It pairs particularly well with beer and other alcoholic beverages.
Dietary Note
One important point is that this product appears to contain chicken and pork ingredients.
People who avoid certain meats for religious or dietary reasons should be aware of this before consuming the product.

Final Thoughts
Kaki no Tane “Seed of Agility” keeps the familiar texture and flavor style of the classic Kameda rice crackers while increasing the chili heat slightly.
The Dragon Quest collaboration theme adds a playful element to the packaging, especially for fans of the series.
Even without the game connection, the snack itself still works well as a typical Japanese spicy rice cracker and drinking snack.
